Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Olive Oil
  • 3 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp Fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Dan-O’s Original Seasoning
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 1/2 Boneless chicken breasts
  • 6 Strips of bacon
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Onion
  • Spicy pickles

Instructions

  1. 1Mix all your ingredients for the vinaigrette. Season your chicken breasts heavily with Dan-O’s Original, then place them in a bag. Pour the vinaigrette into the bag and seal shut. Keep a small amount of vinaigrette for drizzling on the sandwich later. Place in the refrigerator for 5-6 hours.
  2. 2Place the chicken out for about 30 minutes to warm up to room temperature while still in the bag. Pre-slice your veggies.
  3. 3Preheat your grill to high and oil your grates. Take chicken out of the bag and shake off any excess marinade. Place on the grill and cook until done and then remove from grill. Grill bacon or cook indoors via your preferred method.
  4. 4While your chicken rests, toast your buns by spreading insides with butter and cooking in a medium-high pan for around 20-30 seconds.
  5. 5Build your sandwich with mayo (sprinkled with Dan-O’s), onion, chicken breast, bacon, tomato, spicy pickles, and a spoonful of vinaigrette. Enjoy!

The Grilled Chicken Sandwich Worth Making At Home

A grilled chicken sandwich lives or dies by the marinade and the bun. Get those two right and you've got a supper that beats the drive-thru line on a Tuesday.

Cooks on Pepper reach for these when practice runs late and everybody wants something fast but still off the grill pan, not out of a bag.

Every recipe here starts with chicken breast: the honey-balsamic Grilled Chicken Sandwich, a California Chicken Sandwich with bacon and avocado, a Rattlesnake version on Hawaiian buns, a spicy copycat brined in pickle juice, and the mayo-barbecue sauce to go with all of them.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Pound the breasts even

Flatten chicken to about 1/2 inch thick so it cooks through in 4 to 5 minutes a side without drying out the edges.

  2. 2

    Brine in pickle juice

Soak thin breasts in 1 to 2 cups of pickle juice for at least 30 minutes, or overnight, for that tangy copycat flavor.

  3. 3

    Toast the buns

Butter the cut sides and set them face-down on the hot pan for 1 to 2 minutes so the bread holds up to the sauce.

  4. 4

    Let the chicken rest

Give it 5 minutes off the heat before it hits the bun so the juices stay in the meat instead of the bread.
