Ingredients

  • 1 6-10 lbs bone-in shank side ham
  • 1 cup orange marmalade
  • 1/2 cup dijon mustard whole grain
  • 1/2 cup real maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup bourbon
  • 3 tbsp fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

  1. 1Heat oven or roaster to 325°F.
  2. 2Mix all the ingredients (besides the ham) in a small bowl.
  3. 3Remove ham from packaging, give a quick rinse, and place cut side down in roasting pan. Score ham in a criss-cross pattern all the way around. Brush with about 1/2 cup of the glaze. Cover loosely with foil.
  4. 4Bake for about 2-2 1/2 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 125°F-135°F. Remove foil.
  5. 5Turn oven temperature up to 425°F and brush with glaze again. Bake for another 15-20 minutes, glazing ham every 6-7 minutes. Repeat the process about 3 times.
  6. 6Keep an eye on the ham to prevent the sugars in the glaze from burning. Aim for a deep mahogany color. Once cooking is finished, remove to a cutting board and tent with foil for 20 minutes before carving.

A Ham That Feeds You All Week

A spiral ham is already cooked, so your job is heat and glaze. That's why it shows up every holiday and every time you need to feed a crowd without standing at the stove.

Cooks on Pepper reach for these when Easter or Christmas dinner is coming, when family is staying over, or when they want leftovers for sandwiches, beans, and breakfast eggs.

Every recipe here is a spiral or bone-in ham with a glaze worth spooning over: Best Glazed Ham with orange marmalade and dijon, Brown Sugar & Mustard Glazed Ham, Pineapple Glazed Ham, Best ever easy honey baked ham, Slow Cooker Glazed Ham, Maple Glazed Ham, and Smoked Spiral Ham with Apple and Bacon Glaze.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Warm it, don't cook it

It's already fully cooked, so bake covered at 325°F just until the center hits 130-140°F, about 10-12 minutes per pound.

  2. 2

    Glaze at the end

Brush the brown sugar or honey glaze on in the last 20-30 minutes so the sugar browns instead of burning.

  3. 3

    Add liquid to the pan

Pour 1 to 2 cups of water, pineapple juice, or apple cider in the bottom of the pan to keep the slices from drying out.

  4. 4

    Let it rest

Give the ham 15 minutes on the counter before you pull the spiral slices apart so the juices stay in the meat.
