How Cooks on Pepper Turn Salmon and Rice Into Dinner

Every top-saved salmon bowl on Pepper is a three-part build — a base of rice or cauliflower rice, a cooked or raw salmon protein, and a sauce that ties it together.

Home cooks who make these lean on spicy mayo, sriracha, soy or coconut aminos, sesame oil, and pickled or fresh vegetables for the crunch.

The recipes here mostly go from raw salmon to bowl in under 30 minutes, and most of the components hold overnight — one pan today, lunch tomorrow.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Pat the salmon dry

A dry surface is the difference between crispy skin and steamed fish — five seconds with a paper towel does it.

  2. 2

Season the rice, not just the fish

A splash of rice vinegar and a pinch of salt in the warm rice does more work than any sauce.

  3. 3

    Make the sauce first

Spicy mayo, sriracha honey, ponzu — mix while the salmon cooks so nothing sits waiting.

  4. 4

Add the crunch at the end

Cucumbers, seaweed, sesame seeds, or fried onions go on last so they don’t wilt.
