Korean style Hot Dog

Inspired from Korean fun street food, usually those sticks made with sausage or mozzarella cheese. I decided to make a combo.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm Water
  • 1 3/4 cup All purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 pack Dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 4 pcs Hot Dog Sausage
  • 16 oz Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cup Bread crumbs
  • to taste Dan-O's Seasoning

Instructions

  1. 1Make a dough: Combine warm water with yeasts and sugar, wait 5 minutes until yeasts melts. Add salt and flour. Mix for couple minutes and let it rest in warm place for about one hour.
  2. 2Using double boiling method melt mozzarella cheese (you can use microwave too). Skewer the hot dogs using wood sticks. And coat with melted cheese. Freeze sticks about 20 minutes, or until cheese is formed.
  3. 3Prepare Dan-O's seasoning and breadcrumbs. Cover hot dogs with seasoning, then coat with batter and bread crumbs.
  4. 4Deep fry hot dogs in 350F oil for 3-4 minutes.
  5. 5Drizzle with yellow mustard and ketchup. Enjoy!

Why Hot Dogs Deserve More Serious Attention

The hot dog is one of the world's most flexible flavor vehicles. Beyond the basic ketchup-and-mustard setup, regional styles tell completely different stories: Chicago-style with neon relish and sport peppers, New York-style with mustard and sauerkraut, Sonoran-style wrapped in bacon and piled with pinto beans.

The cooking method matters more than people think. Grilled with char marks, split and pan-fried, steamed, or wrapped in crescent roll dough — each method produces a different eating experience. Quality hot dogs reward simple preparations; cheaper dogs are better transformed with bolder toppings.

Home cooks on Pepper are building and sharing collections that elevate the most democratic food in American cooking.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Score before grilling

Cut shallow diagonal slashes on each hot dog before it hits the grill. The cuts open up over heat, create more char surface, and prevent the casing from splitting messily.

  2. 2

    Toast the bun always

A warm, lightly toasted bun holds up to saucy toppings and adds texture. Butter the cut side and toast it on the grill or in a dry pan for 60 seconds.

  3. 3

    Layer toppings strategically

Put wet condiments like mustard and relish directly on the dog, then add drier toppings like onions or slaw on top. This keeps the bun from getting soggy.

  4. 4

    Try regional styles

Chicago-style means no ketchup and seven specific toppings. Detroit goes chili and mustard. Sonoran wraps in bacon. Regional styles are a quick way to make a basic dog feel totally different.
