Greek Yogurt Is the MVP of Every Weight-Loss Pantry

Plain non-fat greek yogurt is 100 calories per cup with 17g of protein — almost double the protein and half the calories of regular yogurt. Stir in vanilla and stevia, top with berries and a sprinkle of granola, and you've replaced a 400-calorie breakfast with a 220-calorie one that you actually like.

The other magic is its versatility. It replaces sour cream on tacos, mayo in chicken salad, ricotta in lasagna, and cream cheese in dips — all at half the calories with more protein. One ingredient, dozens of weight-loss wins per week.

The most-saved Greek yogurt recipes on Pepper are proof that even the simplest staples can move the needle.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Buy plain, sweeten at home

Plain saves 10g of sugar per cup vs flavored. Add honey, vanilla, or fruit yourself and control the calories.

  2. 2

    Strain for thicker yogurt cheese

Cheesecloth or coffee filter, 4 hours in the fridge. You get a tangy cream-cheese-style spread at 80 cal per half cup.

  3. 3

    Freeze in bark form

Mix with fruit, spread thin on parchment, freeze. Snap into pieces for a 70-calorie dessert.

  4. 4

Sub for mayo and sour cream

1:1 swap in dressings, dips, and chicken salad. Cuts 200+ calories per cup of finished sauce.
