Open in Pepper →Tuna macaroni salad is the dish you make once and eat all week. It's cheap, it's cold, it feeds a crowd, and it tastes better the second day once the noodles soak up the dressing.
Cooks on Pepper reach for this collection on hot days when nobody wants the oven on, for potlucks and church suppers, and for lunches packed the night before.
Every recipe here is a cold pasta bowl worth making: Easy Island Macaroni Salad, Summer Macaroni Salad with apple cider vinegar, Tuna Pasta Salad made with bowtie noodles, a classic Tuna Macaroni Salad with chopped celery, and a kid-friendly version made with Miracle Whip-style salad dressing.
Rinse the noodles cold
Drain the elbows and rinse under cold water for about 30 seconds so they stop cooking and the dressing doesn't turn oily.
Drain the tuna well
Press the tuna in water against the lid of the can until no more liquid comes out, or the salad goes watery by morning.
Hold back some dressing
Stir in about three quarters of the mayo now and the rest right before serving — pasta soaks up dressing as it chills.
Chill at least two hours
Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or overnight so the celery, onion, and tuna have time to season the noodles.
