Eggs Are the Cheapest, Most Complete Weight-Loss Protein

Two eggs are 140 calories with 12g of complete protein. Studies on egg breakfasts vs bagel breakfasts of the same calories consistently show the egg eaters lose more weight, snack less, and feel fuller — because the protein-fat-volume combo is dialed for satiety in a way bagels can't match.

The trick is treating eggs as the main event, not the garnish. Two eggs plus a slice of whole grain toast plus avocado plus a tomato is a 350-calorie breakfast that lasts until lunch. Three eggs in a frittata with vegetables is a 400-calorie dinner that feeds two people for $4.

On Pepper, a vibrant community of home cooks consistently returns to egg-centric recipes for their ease and remarkable ability to support a calorie deficit without sacrificing flavor.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

Six-minute jammy egg = the lunch upgrade

Boil 6 min, ice bath, peel. Set jammy yolk on any grain bowl or salad. 70 cal, 6g protein.

  2. 2

    Use the silicone egg-bite mold

Make a dozen bites in one steam. 4 days of grab-and-go breakfast for under $1 per serving.

  3. 3

Whisk with a splash of milk for fluffier scrambles

Air pockets = restaurant softness. A tablespoon per two eggs.

  4. 4

Low heat, slow stir for the best scramble

High heat = rubbery. Medium-low, fold every 10 seconds, pull just before set. They'll finish cooking on the plate.
