Three Things In The Blender And Done

A milkshake is the fastest dessert there is. Ice cream, milk, a sleeve of cookies, and you've got something the kids will remember longer than anything you fussed over.

Cooks on Pepper reach for these on hot afternoons, after a long day when nobody wants to turn on the oven, or when a birthday needs something sweet in about four minutes.

Every recipe here keeps the list short. There's the plain Oreo milkshake with cookies and cream ice cream, a copycat Starbucks Oreo frappe made with ice and chocolate syrup, a chocolate and Oreo milkshake, and a peppermint Oreo milkshake with Winter Oreos broken into pieces.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Start with less milk

Pour in half a cup, blend, then add more a splash at a time. It's easy to thin a shake and nearly impossible to thicken one back up.

  2. 2

    Let ice cream soften

Set the carton on the counter 5 to 10 minutes before you blend. Softer ice cream means less milk and a thicker shake.

  3. 3

    Save cookies for last

Blend everything smooth first, then pulse in 2 or 3 whole Oreos just a few seconds so you still get real cookie pieces.

  4. 4

    Chill the glasses

Stick the glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes while you work. The shake stays thick a good bit longer.
