Why the Easiest Cookies Are Still the Best Ones

A cake-mix cookie in one bowl, twelve minutes in the oven — the ratio of effort to reward is unbeatable and the results silence any snob.

Cooks on Pepper keep a box of Butter Pecan cake mix and a jar of cookie butter on standby for the nights a craving hits after 8 p.m.

The recipes here are the community's easiest wins — the ones you memorize after making them twice.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Chill the dough

Even 30 minutes in the fridge means thicker cookies that hold their shape.

  2. 2

    Underbake by two minutes

Pull cookies when centers still look wet — they finish setting on the sheet.

  3. 3

Cake mix is a cheat code

A box of cake mix plus eggs and oil is a cookie dough — no measuring required.

  4. 4

    Room-temp butter

Twenty minutes on the counter — soft, not melted, is the goal for a proper cream.
