Why Fresh Juice Is Worth Making at Home

Fresh-pressed juice is a genuinely different product from store-bought — brighter, more vibrant, and without the added sugars or preservatives that commercial juice requires for shelf life. The nutritional difference is real.

The most versatile base: cucumber, celery, and apple. From there, you add what you need — ginger for digestion, lemon for brightness, spinach or kale for greens, beet for earthiness and color. Find a combination you love and stick with it.

Home cooks on Pepper are building morning rituals that feel good, by saving and sharing their favorite juice combinations.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Juice greens before fruit

Run leafy greens like spinach and kale through the juicer first, then follow with harder fruits to push all that juice through. You'll lose less green juice stuck in the pulp.

  2. 2

    Add lemon to everything

A squeeze of fresh lemon juice brightens any blend and helps slow oxidation, so your juice stays fresh-looking longer — especially important for apple or celery-heavy juices.

  3. 3

    Drink it immediately

Fresh juice oxidizes fast and loses nutrients within 20–30 minutes. Drink it right after juicing, or store in a sealed mason jar with minimal air for up to 24 hours.

  4. 4

    Balance sugar with bitter

Too much fruit makes juice very high in sugar. Balance sweet ingredients like apple or pineapple with bitter greens or cucumber to keep the glycemic load in check.
