Open in Pepper →A chicken dinner you can start in the morning takes the worst part of the day off your plate. By the time everybody is home and hungry, the house smells good and supper is already done.
Cooks on Pepper reach for these on the days that are already full — practice, late meetings, homework — when they want something hot on the table without standing at the stove at six o'clock.
Every recipe here starts with chicken breasts, thighs, or tenderloins and ends with real supper: CrockPot Lemon Garlic Butter Chicken Thigh, Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings, Crockpot Shredded Chicken Tacos, Sweet Hawaiian Crockpot Chicken, Garlic Parmesan Crockpot Chicken and Potatoes, and Crockpot Chicken & Stuffing.
Use thighs for long cooks
Thighs hold up to 6 to 8 hours on low without drying out. Breasts do better on low for 3 to 4 hours, or just until they shred.
Keep the lid on
Every peek lets out heat and adds about 15 to 20 minutes to the cook time. Check only near the end.
Go easy on liquid
Chicken releases a lot of its own juice, so 1 cup of broth is usually plenty unless you're making soup.
Add dairy at the end
Stir in cream, cheese, or cream soups during the last 30 minutes so they stay smooth instead of separating.
