Ingredients

  • 1 lb lil’ smokies (cocktail sausages)
  • 1 (1-oz) packet ranch dressing mix
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 6–8 pepperoncini peppers, sliced
  • a splash pepperoncini juice
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the lil’ smokies in a single layer in a 9×13-inch baking dish or large oven-safe skillet.
  2. 2Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, ranch seasoning, brown sugar, garlic powder, and a little pepperoncini juice until smooth.
  3. 3Pour the sauce evenly over the sausages and scatter the sliced pepperoncini on top.
  4. 4Bake for 20–25 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the sauce is bubbly and the smokies are fully coated.
  5. 5Serve warm straight from the dish with toothpicks.

Little Smokies Never Come Home Full

A bag of little smokies is one of those things you keep in the fridge because it can turn into dinner or into the first thing gone off the snack table. Sweet, smoky, sticky — they cook down in a slow cooker while you do everything else.

Cooks on Pepper reach for these for game days, church potlucks, showers, and the nights when a sheet pan or a crockpot has to do all the work.

Every recipe here is a real one: Mississippi Lil' Smokies with ranch mix and butter, Crockpot Grape Jelly & BBQ Little Smokies, bacon wrapped little smokies rolled in brown sugar, Honey Garlic Smokies, Pineapple Brown Sugar Smokies Skewers, Apple Butter BBQ, and a Little Smokies hash brown casserole for supper.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Let the crockpot do it

Stir sauce and sausages together and cook on low 2 to 3 hours, lifting the lid only once or twice so the sauce thickens instead of thinning out.

  2. 2

    Cut bacon in thirds

One strip cut into 3 pieces wraps 3 smokies snugly; secure each with a toothpick so they hold their shape while baking.

  3. 3

    Bake bacon on a rack

Set the wrapped smokies on a rack over a foil-lined sheet at 375°F for about 35 minutes so the grease drips away and the bacon crisps.

  4. 4

    Balance the sweet sauces

With grape jelly, honey, or brown sugar mixes, add a splash of vinegar or a teaspoon of mustard so the sauce tastes tangy, not just sugary.
