Why Date Night Dinners Don't Have to Be Complicated

The best date night dinners feel special without keeping you in the kitchen all night. A good steak, a hand-tossed pasta, or a single skillet of seared scallops does more than a five-course menu.

Pick one centerpiece dish and let it shine. A simple salad and a loaf of crusty bread are all the supporting cast you need.

Pour the wine while the pan heats up. Half the magic of date night cooking is doing it together.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Pick one wow dish

Don't try three new recipes. One impressive main with simple sides beats a stressful multi-course meal every time.

  2. 2

    Prep before they arrive

Chop, measure, and stage everything ahead. Cooking together is romantic — fumbling in a messy kitchen is not.

  3. 3

    Splurge on one ingredient

Great olive oil, dry-aged steak, or a wedge of real Parmigiano makes a simple dish feel like a restaurant.

  4. 4

    Plate it properly

Wipe the rim, use a real plate, garnish with something green. Five extra seconds turns dinner into an occasion.
