Ingredients

  • 2 lb, cut into strips chicken breast
  • to taste salt
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • for frying oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4-5 cloves, finely chopped fresh garlic
  • 2 tbsp, chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup, freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1-2 tbsp, adjust to taste chili sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder

Instructions

  1. 1Season the chicken by sprinkling salt, garlic powder, and black pepper over the chicken strips. Mix well to ensure even coating.
  2. 2Prepare the dry batter by mixing together flour, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper in a bowl.
  3. 3Beat the eggs in a separate bowl to prepare the egg mixture.
  4. 4Place panko breadcrumbs in another bowl for the breadcrumb coating.
  5. 5Coat each seasoned chicken strip by dipping it into the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, and finally the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring an even coat.
  6. 6Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the coated chicken strips until golden brown and crispy, about 5-6 minutes, flipping sides in between.
  7. 7For the garlic parmesan butter, heat butter in a pan. Once melted, add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Remove and set aside.
  8. 8Prepare the sauce by combining mayonnaise, ketchup, chili sauce (to taste), Dijon mustard, salt, smoked paprika powder, garlic powder, and black pepper powder in a bowl. Mix well.
  9. 9Serve by tossing the fried chicken strips with garlic butter. Top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley. Serve with the creamy chili sauce for dipping.

Chicken Strips Everybody At The Table Eats

Chicken strips are the one dinner nobody argues about. They come together from a pound of chicken breast or tenderloins, a bowl of flour or panko, and whatever sauce is already in the door of the fridge.

Cooks on Pepper reach for this collection on the nights the schedule got away from them — practice ran late, homework isn't done, and dinner needs to be hot and on plates fast.

Every recipe here is a real strip: Crispy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Strips with Creamy Chili Sauce, Crispy Coconut Chicken Strips, Honey Pecan Chicken Strips, Air Fryer Cajun Chicken Strips, Potato Chip Chicken Strips, and Crispy oven baked chicken strips for when you don't want to fry.

Quick Tips

  1. 1

    Soak in buttermilk first

Cover the tenderloins in buttermilk with a few dashes of hot sauce for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the fridge. The meat stays juicy and the coating grabs on.

  2. 2

    Cut strips the same size

Slice chicken breast into strips about 1 inch wide so they all finish at the same time. Uneven pieces mean some are dry before others are done.

  3. 3

    Watch your oil temperature

Fry in oil held at 350°F, 3 to 4 minutes per side, and only 4 or 5 strips at a time. Crowding the pan drops the heat and the crust turns soft.

  4. 4

    Spray before air frying

Give breaded strips a good coat of cooking spray on both sides, then air fry at 400°F for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway. Dry breading stays pale.
