Open in Pepper →A pitcher of lemonade turned blue gets more attention than anything else you can make in five minutes. It's lemonade, berries, and ice, and the kids will ask for it again before the glass is empty.
Cooks on Pepper reach for these when the afternoon drags on, when there's a cookout to bring something to, or when a birthday needs a drink that looks like somebody tried.
Every recipe here is short on steps and easy on the grocery list. White & blue Lemonade uses white Gatorade and a handful of blueberries, Blueberry raspberry lemonade starts with frozen berries and a big squeeze of fresh lemon, Blueberry Lemonade keeps it simple with lemon juice, and Blue Lemonade stirs in Cool Blue and a tablespoon of sugar.
Use frozen berries as ice
A cup of frozen blueberries chills the glass without watering it down, and they stay good for about 20 minutes before they soften.
Mash the berries first
Press the blueberries against the side of the glass with a spoon for 30 seconds so the color actually bleeds into the lemonade.
Add lemon juice last
Stir in a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice after everything else, then taste — it cuts the sweetness from the Gatorade fast.
Dissolve sugar in warm water
Stir 1 tablespoon of sugar into a splash of warm water before it hits the cold lemonade, or it'll sit grainy on the bottom.
